There are more and more underwater hotels opening around the world. Today let’s focus on the most extravagant one, and obviously there’re only one place in the world for such hotel … Dubai.
The Crescent Hydropolis was meant to open in 2006 but due to some technical issues as well as the GFC this project had to be delayed. Is it now supposed to open by the end of 2010 but no guarantees at this stage as they are not allowing for pre-bookings yet. Their website is not even finished yet…
Initial budget: $550 million (I have heard it is now 20% over budget)
Location: Off the famous Jumeirah beach (where The World project took place) in Dubai, at 66 feet below the surface
Size: 260 hectares. It’s big, pretty much the size of Hyde Park, in London.
Layout: It will be divided in 3 sections. The landing station to welcome guests. A 600m connecting tunnel where a train able to carry up to 1000 people guests will take you to one of the 220 luxurious underwater suites.
Cost: Starting at $5000 per night. Is it too much to pay for such an experience?
This property does not qualify as a cheap hotel is definitely worth to be talked about. I will introduce other interesting underwater hotels in future posts.
